SPEAKER_01Is that oh geez, I thought that was it. We are rusty. Holy d can't recognize the music.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03What is this? Hello, everybody.
SPEAKER_01Hello.
SPEAKER_03We're back.
SPEAKER_02We're back. We are back.
SPEAKER_03I uh thousands of people have just tuned in, like, yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, everybody's like, thank God.
SPEAKER_01Switch on the nuke power grid.
SPEAKER_02Where have you guys been? Well Well, we we've been working pretty hard. Uh there's been a lot of uh theater crap going on right now in our area in for sure. And there was accidents all like yesterday. There's like a what was there?
SPEAKER_01Four car accident, two fatality.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Amy knows about all that. Do you keep you scan that stuff? You have a big scanner.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_02Oh you don't? You just you just on the book of the face. I had to think a little bit about that. There's a lot of Facebook like there's the the for the Facebook like for Juno and uh you know all you get on that stuff because you when you're trying to book something, you know, like when we did our you gotta put it on all these pages so that it all markets right and stuff.
SPEAKER_03What are those social things that they call it on Facebook and stuff like that?
SPEAKER_01I'm not allowed on those, but what like the social like community, like Wapong community or beaver and community?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like the gossipy things or whatever. I'm banned on that. How did that be?
SPEAKER_01Gene?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Gene banned me from going on that.
SPEAKER_01I don't think so.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I go well, I'm too opinionated at the time.
SPEAKER_01What are you what did you say or post?
SPEAKER_03Well, I may have responded a little aggressively harshly to something that we will not name. Nope. Alright. Nope.
SPEAKER_02No legal authorities involved. That's fine. I uh uh so yeah, we had that. We got a lot of theater. Uh what is it? Anastasia's Anastasia. I remember it's like this weekend and next weekend. LaPhobes did that, and then we got uh Suzical musical coming out and then uh uh what's coming at the end? Um bunch of stuff.
SPEAKER_01Isn't that the Lumberjack?
SPEAKER_03Lumberjacks and Lumberjack or is the fall show. Okay, and then uh local vocals, local vocals is reunion.
SPEAKER_02I thought you guys were retired. Half of us are retired? Okay. What are they is there an age cutoffline? Is that what happened? For us? Yeah. Like the audience members? Like the people that aren't in, are they in because of physical stuff?
SPEAKER_03No. No, we don't like it. We had three people move away, retire and move away.
SPEAKER_02So now they're and they just didn't want to be by you anyway.
SPEAKER_03Right. We chased them away, you know.
SPEAKER_02At a boy. You don't have to like everybody. Nope. You know, I it's so much work.
SPEAKER_0314 years together is a long time, so we thought one more year. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02One more year. One more year. I got moles that are younger than that. See?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02It's a long time.
SPEAKER_01Talk about your moles.
SPEAKER_02So so uh we are back. Uh I I've got history going on here. Amy's doing sports, and some uh we switched that up a little bit. Amy is doing a little bit of the Olympics, I think, and then some maybe some brewers, right? There's hockey. There's new stuff in uh the Olympics. Uh nothing we uh say here uh is new. It's probably out there. We just thought we'd bring it to you our way. Uh the the old-fashioned way, just by saying a better way to do it. Uh Rick has got stuff we don't we don't know what Rick's gonna do.
SPEAKER_03We have some career changes maybe coming up, right, Dan? Me? What? Yeah. Well No, I'm f I'm staying.
SPEAKER_01Career changes.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, opportunities.
SPEAKER_02We're we're both like, you know, we've both taken a step. I became uh an ordained minister. Yes. And uh Rick is also an ordained minister brother.
SPEAKER_03We are ordained minister brothers.
SPEAKER_02We thought we would it'd be fun to do weddings like the both of us, maybe. Yeah. Like if they would want us to do it like just the two of us, you know, and Rick could be the straight guy or something. Uh-huh. And I could interrupt. I'm sure couples would love that at their wedding. Right. Right? Yeah. No problem.
SPEAKER_03Who wouldn't want to just tinker toy around up there in the pulpit, you know? I had fun. I did uh Abby's wedding, Jean's daughter was it was great. It was I I loved it. It was awesome. 17, 18 minutes long done. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Get them out and get me to the donuts, man. Right. Donuts instead of donuts were so good. I do love donuts. I can't believe they just don't like they don't like cake at all.
SPEAKER_03I do like cake though, too. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02And cheesecake.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03And pie. Yes. All those things would have been.
SPEAKER_02But donuts, that's golden.
SPEAKER_01Donuts are golden.
SPEAKER_02They put I said was it one way where they put them on the peg? It was like a pegboard with dowels sticking out, you know, like a stick. And they just put the donuts through the holes, and they had like eight donuts on a wall perpendicular. And you just went and grabbed a donut on the wall. It was fun. I loved it. I had three glaze that day. It was a good day. I had at least two. And I went into a diabetic coma for about 10 minutes. But that's, you know, that's my tri you know, that's my that's my insulin's for it. Right? So I decided to do the history of theme parks because I am a big theme park chunkie. Thank you very much. So I thought I'd do some appropriate music for this. Huh?
SPEAKER_03Perfect. Yeah, of course.
SPEAKER_02The wheel go round the wheel. Okay. The history of theme parks begins. Uh this also, some of the games they played way back then uh were interesting as well. Uh there's the Mayans had a ball game called Pitts. Yeah. P-I-T-Z that they had in large stadiums uh in Europe. Uh and they hosted these, and they played it by uh it was a rubber ball, get this, somewhere between the size of a softball and a soccer ball, that they would try to uh bounce somehow, uh, and they would try to put it into hoops uh at at the ends of the uh at the ends of the I don't know how they would have done it, but yeah, they just would use their own feet. Wow because they couldn't use their hands. So that's I thought that was interesting.
SPEAKER_01Is that the one where the soccer basketball? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Is that the one where the losers got killed?
SPEAKER_02You know, maybe it was with a sacrifice, we don't know. Something like that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. We don't know. Put some skin in the game.
SPEAKER_02The now here's this. So the oldest uh theme parks are still around uh back in Europe. So they kind of started in Europe and wherever you have land. Are you ready?
SPEAKER_01This is why I don't go on rides. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02They they you need a lot of land. So there and here's another thing. The two of the oldest ones are in Denmark, Norway, and I am Norwegian. So maybe that's why I like theme park so much. Yeah, it's in your blood. One is called the Bakken, it was in 1563.
SPEAKER_01Oh my lord.
SPEAKER_02Holy Moses, right? Uh they were built around the hot springs, uh, and it was basically like a private hunting ground, and they turned some of that hunting ground into an animal park. No, and it was just a public park grounds during the 18th century, right? So that's what they called it. Basically, it's like our it's like our regular park. You know what I mean? Oh, yeah. Then there's the Wurstel Platel in Austria. Oh, Wurstel Plato similarly went through an evolution from royal hunting grounds into a public park in 1776.
SPEAKER_011776. 1770! 1766. Oh, bummer.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and then there's the Tivol de Tivioli Gardens, uh, which is also in Denmark in 1843. It was called the Pleasure Playgrounds for private entrepreneur George Carlsten. Oh, Charles Karsten Stein. No, Carl Karlstenstein. Uh so theme parks can't exist. Land is the big problem with theme parks, but they wanted to do this to for everybody to enjoy. Uh in the Virstoplate in Germany, right now there's 14 roller coasters there. Cheapers. So those are the three oldest ones Zebaken, uh, the Virstoplata, and the Tivoli Gardens. Uh in the Plex. So they were called pleasure gardens, right? Oh, hell yeah. So now uh here's what they did. The pleasure gardens. There was a uh and the terrifying they would do just circular walks. Are you ready? Yeah, so they had these huge areas, and everybody would get dressed up and walk in a circle at the Vauxhall Gardens, and uh they would just all walk in this huge circle inside this, you know, and there was just a bunch of gardens and stuff to look at, and then a bell would ring, and then they would switch directions. Doesn't that sound like a hoot?
SPEAKER_01We used to do that in high school. We'd walk the halls and just go in a circle until the bell rang.
SPEAKER_02Now really in here, there are restaurants. There was restaurants uh and striking landscapes. No way. I have a menu for the stuff that you could get.
SPEAKER_01Oh, do we want to know?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you don't. But I'm gonna But here, listen to this. So there's no like meal deals. You have to buy everything separately on this, all right? So you could buy mystique. You could buy a uh a plate of ham or a dish of ham. Okay. I don't know what that means. All right. You could buy a tart, which of course we suspect, serve a shrewsbury cake. Oh uh just a plate of olives, all right? Here's where it gets weird.
SPEAKER_01It's probably what I could afford.
SPEAKER_02You could you could you could also buy a plate of sugar. Just a delicate. I wonder if that was a thing back then.
SPEAKER_01That was a delicacy, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Rich people I suppose they didn't know what it actually did to you then. I'm sure it's like today's Skittles, so that's that's what's interesting. Good point. You could buy a plate of sugar, you could buy one lemon. Just a lemon. Okay.
SPEAKER_01I suppose fruit too is like rich people got fruit. Everyone else is scurvy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, scurvy. And then uh you could also buy uh just lettuce all by itself. You can buy a leaf of lettuce. That's what I'm reading. It's right here. Uh, you could buy one slice of cheese, one pat of butter, and a pot of stout.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there we go. I don't know what this is. You could also buy a pair of wax lights at these particular ones. Wax lights? I don't know what those mean. Wouldn't they melt? I just get it.
SPEAKER_01Wax lights? Yeah, is that like just candles?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. It must have been. Oh, oh, yeah. I bet you that's what for nighttime.
SPEAKER_01So what you can walk around with one candle in your hand?
SPEAKER_03But the one candle. Nothing else is lit up, but you are. That's right.
SPEAKER_01Until the candle melts all over your hand.
SPEAKER_02If you drink enough, you're lit up as well. So that's Woo! Now, the so they would look at the landscapes, they have gardens, uh, all that stuff, and then they would also have this is the first time uh during this period where the Chinese had the fountain of mirrors. Uh that's where the mirrors, so the mirrors have been around forever, uh, interspersed with lambs. They would put lambs in there. I don't know why. Lambs and mirrors? I don't know why. Alright. Now we're going to the Raleigh Gardens. It's an Irish place.
SPEAKER_01All right, let's go to the Irish. They would have music.
SPEAKER_02Music accompanied by entertainment from operas to open-air masquerades. Oh. And dancing were standard fare at the Irish fairs. And the Ranale Gardens. They're in Dublin, Ireland.
SPEAKER_01Nice, nice.
SPEAKER_02They also hosted uh Mozart's uh nine a nine-year-old Mozart. Oh. And he did a reenactment at the uh they did a reenactment at the Battle of Waterloo with a thousand soldiers at this particular nine-year-old Mozart. How cool is that? Yeah, it it was crazy. Uh then they had the evening fair. That was also uh that would go from 11 p.m. till 3 a.m. in the morning. Uh this was this was all called fairs. There they were like nightclubs in that regard, and they would light up 14,000 lamp lights. Uh clearly uh made from the oil of the whales, of course, which is a bad time in our history. Sounds like a fire ready to be. I'm like, this is stupid. Where are the rides, right? And then all of a sudden they started reading, and you're ready. Here's the first two rides. If you had to guess and think about it, what would be the first few rides that would come out of this?
SPEAKER_01Um animal rides.
SPEAKER_02No. Horse riding. Even older than that. Close. Oh. Elephants. Balloon rides. Back then?
SPEAKER_01Heck no.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that'd be a little balloon ascents became very popular in the early, so we're in the 19th century now, and it happened. Uh, and France, they were the first ones to do that in the gardens of France, first to adopt thrill rides. Leave it to the French, huh? Of course. I like you.
SPEAKER_01I love you so much.
SPEAKER_02Oh, come on. I love you so much. 1817. The uh there was an aerial walk uh known for its dual track system, no, known as the first roller coaster. And let me tell you, they were not safe. No, I think people did it. So they put it at the top of the building, and just imagine uh a piece of plywood with four wheels on it, and you sit on it and you just roll down 40 miles an hour without a seatbelt or harness.
SPEAKER_03Now that's thrill seeking.
SPEAKER_01I wonder what their crash kill rate was back then.
SPEAKER_02They didn't have to worry about much, right? So that that's people die at the fair. Oh and so that's when things so now a lot of these things started closing, uh, but they're still like open today. But they like this whole that whole pastoral thing just kind of went away uh during that period. Now, uh the we don't know why the gardens were closed. It it maybe it became to m mystery, but there was a there's a gap in history as to why the big but they seemed like that they would be successful. Is there like massive massive amounts of missing people? Bits and pieces, sunglasses and garbage everywhere, cell phones in the middle of the thing like Rick and Icy. Yeah, right, yes, heritized. All right, now we hit the industrial age, 1800s. Right now, here we come. Now we're getting some steam. Cyclo. So trolley parks. They were called picnic groves picnic groves and trolley parks at the resort parks. All right. So what became popular here now is going to the beach. This is when beaching became popular. Hey, there we go. So the beaching. So they would take these trolley, they would take these trolleys to the beach, and beaches just kind of took over as recreational stuff. Then Cedar Point opened up and they had a bathing resort. So you could go in and take baths, and then they had a beer garden with dance halls. Nice. And steamboats and stuff. So now we're talking here, uh, but still, you know, no huge rides or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, gambling and drinking and then, right.
SPEAKER_02But but Cedar Point was the first uh first uh amusement park in America, right? Then Dorney Park uh and the Wildwater Kingdom in 1860 started up.
SPEAKER_031860. Wow.
SPEAKER_02They started a fish hashery with trout ponds, so people who like to fish, and they did uh these shady uh picnic grove areas.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I thought you meant like shady, like sketch.
SPEAKER_02Like sun shady, okay. It literally means I was wondering too much. Pickpockets and Nair Dewells, those kinds of things, right? That's right. Riverside Park, which later became a six flags in New England, became a picnic. Uh uh the Gioga Lake, uh, which also became another six flags. It was uh installed its first ride. It was a lakefront, it was just a boat ride. And then they had baseball games. Uh and then the World Fair started. Uh see, and then they had a trolley there. Uh what's notable about these amusement parks is that they resembled, started resembling the early the earlier pleasure gardens again. Uh right, and the picnic forests and stuff that became in a refreshment started to get added.
SPEAKER_01For the people who didn't want to die on the rides. That's right.
SPEAKER_02Just walk.
SPEAKER_01We'll just walk and watch.
SPEAKER_02Now, Amy, you're carousels started to get invented in here you go. 1880s. So we're late. We're late in the Ferris Wheel uh first debuted at the Columbian Exposition at the World's Fair held in Chicago in 1893. Oh, interesting. Still haven't look at that. So the Ferris Wheel's been around a long time. Yeah. Uh uh they've changed uh and then uh the first roller coaster opened at Cedar Point in 1892. Remember that date.
SPEAKER_01Jeez.
SPEAKER_02And then uh Waldemir added its uh coaster in 1907. So we got a steam-powered carousel, and then uh then the circus came to town. P. T. Barnum became popular in 1871. Uh, and he went to the Coney Islands uh boardwalks, started to emerge with them, and then they had the steeplechase, Amy. Here's your uh uh steeplechase, the Luna, and Dreamland. They all are things that opened up uh in Britain. And then Britain uh started referring to us as American type of theme parks. So they started them, but then they went away for a while, and then America brought them back.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_02Because we like to have a damn good time. Yes, right. Uh so in Europe, they started having gondolas rides and coasters, those started opening up in Copenhagen, uh, and then uh, let's see, the competition started, and then rides started going everywhere. Uh, but what was weird about this, uh, in the world's fair section, uh, they they were anybody could come in. There was no attendance fee, you know what I mean? Oh, they're free? It was treated like a fair fair. Wow, not like we see it today. Anybody could just come in and just start riding the rides, you know, like a regular fair, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. How cool is that?
SPEAKER_02Here's the marketing nightmare coming up. You ready?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02They had a uh a place, there's a part of Chicago which they named White City.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Huh?
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02Over the next two decades. Uh, and they had a whole bunch of amusement parks in the United States and Australia and the United Kingdom. And uh, they all came about and I think they started to change the name. Uh uh, but they, you know, they they marketed it way wrong, especially for nowadays, right? Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, quite now Disney starts to come around. You ready? Here's what he said Disneyland's opening of the 1955 uh signified uh a whole new uh uh experience for theme parks. Uh and there he was rejecting all of the type of things that they ended up finding uh with the older amusement parks, which was uh he uh what did he say? He said he called them carnies. He was the first one to to use the word carnies, uh, which he felt were characterized by unfair games, pickpockets, and operated by rough carnies who were a little more than ripoff artists. And then he started charging admission to come into his theme park, and he cleanliness was a big deal for him and also the way to keep out bugs. Good call. So he set up the park so that there was no water so that the bugs wouldn't come in and get him. Uh, and so it it was it was it was a big deal.
SPEAKER_03Good idea.
SPEAKER_02So then he came and then they opened it up Universal Studios. He opened up two parks. And then Universal Studios opened up uh during uh when Epic was opened, and they opened up, and then now the Bane three parks now are at Cedar Point, Disneyland, which is pretty much cornered the market a little bit, but I like Universal Studios because they own Harry Potter. Yes. And that, my friends, is the history of theme parks. That is fantastic. Yeah. Thank you very much. Thank you. I'll be taking my grades soon. Uh we're not taking the test. I tell you, I get uh we get uh I get we get I mean Rick and I got the season pass, what, for the last two years now? Yep. Going on three almost because it was 2022. We just go and we just ride, we get the fast pass and we go to Six Flags and we sit in all the dirty seats of the roller coasters. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03People are sweating in them all day.
SPEAKER_02And I just love it. We just don't care. I I I love it. I'll go and we're going on this one. We get off, we just hit the fast pass, we go, we just run around and ride rides until we die. I mean, isn't Rick? Literally, I mean I mean, it was almost I was like, we start it, we start at like 12 or 1 and we just keep running until like seven, and then we hit seven, and I I look at Rick and I know Rick wants to go, but he's afraid to say anything because he's waiting for me. I got two more, Dan. He said, No, Dan. Let's keep going. I got another one, skipper. We can do no So this last time though, I think we ended about maybe six ish or so ago. Oh, it was earlier. It was like six. And I looked at Rick and we were heading towards the raging bull, and I go, you know what, bud? I I think I'm good. Yeah, okay. And Rick's like, wow.
SPEAKER_03Okay, if you are, I'm fine. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_02You know what we have to do though? We gotta go at two. We gotta start at two and then go all the way till nighttime and then ride the raging bull at night, is what we gotta do.
SPEAKER_03It was it was a unique, I don't know. It was my first time this year. Maybe I was just wasn't physically ready. But now I mean, you know, you go with Dan. I mean, we're we're we're clicking, we're already booking the next ride before we're even on the ride that we're standing in line for.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we get it and we go. It's awesome.
SPEAKER_03It's just like, oh, okay, we got three minutes.
SPEAKER_02There is something about that next time walking a past uh a 20-minute line and just looking at the people's faces as they watch it. Or two of them. Yeah, we're yeah. We we keep I go I go eye straight, just keep your eyes straight. Yeah, don't you think? I feel so guilty if I look at it. Just walk by him and just I was one of those kids. Like, oh my can't we get those passes? And if you do go to the theme parks, you have to bring uh I I have a vest, uh of course, uh which I've had for twenty years. Yeah, which I keep uh an extra charging pack for my phone. Because you have to have your phone charged all the time to operate all the apps that are necessary to get the full Six Flags experience. If you see any pictures of me at Facebook, you will see me wearing a vest at the theme park. I get made fun of, but you know what? The hell with you people. I don't care. I'm going with my buddy and we're gonna have fun.
SPEAKER_03Am I right? That's right. You damn right.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_01You go.
SPEAKER_02Amy.
SPEAKER_01Yes, sir.
SPEAKER_02Ooh. This is Amy's theme here.
SPEAKER_01I like it.
SPEAKER_02Nice.
SPEAKER_01Sports. Sports. Sports. We'll do a couple of the quick things. Um so NBA, the Celtics won last night.
SPEAKER_03Again. Again.
SPEAKER_01It's been like 15 or 18 years or something. Crap, but they won like uh a crap ton. So whatever. Um, I was going for the Mavericks because they're the underdogs, but they didn't make it. Anyway, moving on. Unless you guys have anything about NBA.
SPEAKER_02Uh no, I'm good. I'm I'm this Caitlin Clark has been a little bit more than a lot of people. Oh, I have boss and smash. She's fucking boss. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03She's doing well.
SPEAKER_01She's amazing. No matter how many people hate her. Underpaid, but oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03Totally.
SPEAKER_01It's like a little AMA out there, but uh even if she's taking it and she's coming back.
SPEAKER_02Even if you're not a fan of the WNBA, I'm kind of a fan of the WNBA right now, just because this gal could probably take out I bet you she could out any high school.
SPEAKER_01She's still breaking records. She's still like the first rookie to score this many points or this many assists or whatever. So no matter what, if you hit like her or don't, she's just that good.
SPEAKER_02Have you ever wondered like how many like guys she could take on a college guy?
SPEAKER_03I think clearly she could take on some of the NBA guys.
SPEAKER_01She could take on NBA guys. You think she could take on MBA? She gets her ass kicked like every game. Oh, she jumps.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I wouldn't put her up against a center, maybe like a Shaquille O'Neal type of guy, but Shaquille O'Neal.
SPEAKER_01Although he's so funny.
SPEAKER_03Isn't he though?
SPEAKER_01I love that guy.
SPEAKER_02Oh Mr. Pizza guy now. Yeah, I just wanted to get a hats on to her. Like I said, she's amazing. She is amazing.
SPEAKER_01And Iowa will never be the same.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_01Um that's where she played for college, yeah. Because my daughter was there. She works for Big Ten and she was doing all the court. Yeah. Just she knew her personally. Yeah. Oh. And at the end you couldn't get towards her because she was just surrounded by cops. Are they hanging out now? So many people. No, like because she's yeah.
SPEAKER_03But no, it's too good for everybody now.
SPEAKER_01Just they sold out like every game. Oh, god. Every away game. Every like she was. And it just now is into the WNBA where she's selling out.
SPEAKER_02Just want to see this gal. Should give her some money.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they should they should pay them all a little more because they're getting not even close what the guys are getting.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_01That's another topic that we don't just it's too serious.
SPEAKER_03Get into that.
SPEAKER_01And then uh next, uh moving into hockey. Oh uh my Canucks went pretty far.
SPEAKER_03Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But they didn't get to the Stanley Cup final, but props to the Canucks. I love you guys. See you next year. Anyway, hockey. I'm rooting for the Oilers. Yeah. They're from Canada. Um, it's the Oilers versus the Panthers, which are from Florida.
SPEAKER_03Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_01And it's crazy. So it's best of seven. Panthers came out, won the first three, like no big deal. And now the Oilers have won the last two. Oh, I love that pushing it right to the end. The last game of the second one, one of them was like eight to one. It was crazy. Like you hardly ever score eight in hockey. So anyway, they the next game is Friday at seven.
SPEAKER_03You wouldn't think a hot weather team would be remotely able.
SPEAKER_01Right?
SPEAKER_03They must have some really good air conditioners in their um facility.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You got to train in that, right? I mean, playing on ice. I would think so. Huh.
SPEAKER_01But yeah. So anyway, room for the whalers. Keep it going. Um, Brewers, they're um number one in the National Central League.
SPEAKER_02Nice. Oh, I thought they were they were third.
SPEAKER_01No, we're number one right now in the central league. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Big kick in rear end.
SPEAKER_01We have 44 wins, 30 losses. Yeah. As long as we're ahead of the Cardinals, we're golden. Uh they play Padres tonight. They might be playing uh probably within the next couple minutes. Anywho, the brews are doing great. Um, the next big thing was the Olympics. So many things going out. The Olympics in Paris starting July 26th.
SPEAKER_02I couldn't use the song because of the copyright.
SPEAKER_03Maybe time trials are going on now, right?
SPEAKER_01Yes. And the time trials for swimming, they have turned the Indianapolis, the Lucas Oil Stadium, the Colts, where they've turned that into a temporary swimming pool. No way. The football field. The football field is a temporary swimming pool right now. They're doing time trials.
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02He's selling uh hot tubs now. But imagine gold medals and just kind of you know Yeah, he's he's good.
SPEAKER_01He just sells it.
SPEAKER_02I kind of feel sorry for him. He's a he's a big fella. His features are big as well. And he's got my medal. I mean, he just he doesn't look but he could probably kick your ass. Yeah. He's got web web toes, right? Didn't they say anything? Don't they have a place like a uh an Olympic city or something like that that only the athletes can go to?
SPEAKER_01And it's yeah, it's usually an Olympic village.
SPEAKER_02Aren't they known for quite a lot of fornication uh things? And then also then they have the cardboard beds now, right? Yeah, they still have the cardboard beds, is what I understand.
SPEAKER_01So you don't have to do that in bed.
SPEAKER_02Well, in other places. God Yeah, I just hear that that's I never heard that before.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you haven't heard that before. Come on, man.
SPEAKER_03I've heard it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, there's some uh STDs flying.
SPEAKER_03International, right?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, so there is a new sport in the Olympics this year.
SPEAKER_02Oh what is it?
SPEAKER_01Breakdancing. No way.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Seriously. Break dancing is a sport. And you know what's not? What is not in the Olympics this summer?
SPEAKER_02They got rid of something?
SPEAKER_01Three things. What? Oh, there's probably more. Karate. Baseball and softball are out. What? But they're coming back when this when they do the Olympics at NLA in 2028. But it's out this year, yeah. No baseball, no softball, or karate.
SPEAKER_03Um, the baseball and softball were huge.
SPEAKER_01But breakdancing is in.
SPEAKER_03But break dance.
SPEAKER_01Like that was back in the does anybody do breakdancing anymore? That was like an 80s thing. Is there a hacky sack too?
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna be doing something else on that night that's televised. Oh my god. Unless they're yeah, breakdown.
SPEAKER_01It'd be interesting to listen to the music.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I think that's a hacky sack too. I mean, you might as well bring it all back.
SPEAKER_03What do they break to today?
unknownI think it's very vital.
SPEAKER_01Wow. Run DMC. Dad, hit the floor, man.
SPEAKER_03Hey, here comes South Korea.
SPEAKER_02I break my other hip. I mean, oh my God. Honestly, what are they gonna do?
SPEAKER_01Put cardboard down on the I mean, there gotta be some kind of smooth surface, I would assume.
SPEAKER_02I I would hope so. Jeez.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02And also, uh, did you find out which sport was gonna be under the uh under the uh Eiffel Tower?
SPEAKER_01Yes, there were some um so yes. Under the Eiffel Tower, they're having beach volleyball and Paralympic uh soccer.
SPEAKER_03Like in the shadow, like right beneath the Eiffel Tower.
SPEAKER_01Well, apparently it's kind of in the there's things around the sides. Wow. There's also but I think the beach volleyball is underneath the Eiffel Tower.
SPEAKER_03It sounds like I think they should add.
SPEAKER_01The Eiffel Tower is also gonna have the Olympic rings. That's where they're gonna have the official rings. Really?
SPEAKER_03Most naturally they would. Yeah. I think they should add um like gum spitting from the Eiffel Tower.
SPEAKER_01Gum spitting or like target price. See how far you can go down and slurp a few.
SPEAKER_03Yes, that's I think that should be considered. And then they also have the other Stature of Liberty there, right?
SPEAKER_02Like that's Right, right. I think I th I I believe. The twin. Go ahead and keep talking, I'll look that up.
SPEAKER_01Anyway. They also have men and women marathons, they're gonna be running past the Eiffel Tower as well. Um Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Nice.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_01Oh, anyway, and then yeah, this the breakdancing, I just kind of went in. There's like it originally started in New York City in the Bronx in the late 70s. Break dancing? Yep. It's considered an urban dance. It combines hip hop, acrobatic moves, and expressive footwork.
SPEAKER_02We all saw it. That's the that's like we also saw uh break in uh electric boogaloo as well. So that's yeah. I don't know why that one, it's just that name electric boogaloo is more popular than the first than the first version of that. Because that's the second one. Yeah. I think those guys are still around, too. Like the leaders. I can't. Are they scared? Oh, they gotta be.
SPEAKER_03They're playing in smaller venues now, I'm sure. Oh, come on. You think so?
SPEAKER_02Well, uh, I don't think they're selling out stadiums with that. Yeah. When there was nothing to watch, though, on you know, out in the middle of the town of Dun MacFarlane when there's nobody there. Sure. I mean, you gotta you gotta give them credit. So they're in break, but they're not gonna bring it back the following. I think this is a one-shot pony, if I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the breakdancing thing? I think so.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But you know, if it's gonna be in LA, I mean, I'm sure I don't know. But I'm yeah, baseball and softball will be back in LA 2020.
SPEAKER_02Just taking a break. They're just taking a break.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02Break feel really bad though because it's like another four years for those that are in their prime, I suppose. Well, that's what I'm like. Is there professional softball?
SPEAKER_01There's not.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01That'd be awesome if there were, but I do not believe so.
SPEAKER_02I think college is it.
SPEAKER_01College and Olympics. So it kind of stinks there's no Olympics this year for them.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that sucks. What else are you guys?
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's about it.
SPEAKER_02That's it? Yeah. You're just ending it like that?
SPEAKER_01What do you want me to say, man?
SPEAKER_02We're up in the so we had hockey, we had that's it.
SPEAKER_01We had NBA, we had hockey, we had baseball, we had Olympics.
SPEAKER_02All right.
SPEAKER_01Golf.
unknownOh, God.
SPEAKER_01That's why I do sports.
SPEAKER_02All right, Rick. Rick Ramirez. We don't know what he'll do. We have no idea. You have no music, by the way. I don't know what to give you. Oh, great.
SPEAKER_01Well Mystery Box.
SPEAKER_03Well, we're talking about uh I do kind of want to talk about uh, you know, our little career change, you know, about being uh ministers uh now. Oh yeah I mean, you know, I've been respected members of the I didn't I want to let everybody know I did not get struck by lightning. So I stood in a change. Oh, it was a difficult process. God, what did it take you?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you know, three minutes. When I sat down and started it, I I looked at it. I had to read over the stuff. Yeah. Probably four to five minutes, maybe. Right. Yeah. Yeah. And you are you are a brother. I have to pay the I have to pay the money to get my license and the and the uh press pass. Forty bucks roughly press pass. Yeah. You get a press pass, you can see and uh look at all the the players down in the Packer field. We'll be able to get on the side ass. Because I think the nose guard's pretty religious. So he's gonna want a blessing and a prayer before the show, right, Rick? Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01You could do a prayer like right now? Sure, sure we could.
SPEAKER_03A pair of padres, if you will. I I used, I got the whole book of how to you know how to do a wedding. Yeah, I want to get that. Funny, funny ones, they have the really lame, by the way. But they have funny ones, religious ones, non-religious.
SPEAKER_02We could do way better.
SPEAKER_03Oh, so I yeah, I just kind of created Abbeys. Just give them a chance to tell everybody to shut up and just be bossy. Sit down. Hey. So I you know, you can legally now, Dan, you and I can legally give uh marriage counseling.
SPEAKER_01That's hilarious. Isn't that great?
SPEAKER_03Such a great idea. I've already been I've already been practicing. I'm I'm gonna have the couple come sit down and say, okay, well, I want you to know I'm in a very happy relationship and I am not married. Let us continue. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So the takeaway is don't get married and just stay.
SPEAKER_03Well, I'm just saying what works for me right now, you know. I'm in my 50s.
SPEAKER_01Make sure that's I think that's what's happening around the world.
SPEAKER_02Make sure you have uh dinner ready for your husband when you get married. Oh wow. You know, there's people whose name is uh don't listen to the podcasts that are coming to the house right now. They like heard that you shut that off. So what the hell did I heard something and there's a big ripple in the lady force, whatever it's about.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're done.
SPEAKER_03Amy's getting no, sit down, sit down, Amy. I'm out. Okay, so along with that, I have uh 21 terrible interview answers guaranteed to get you rejected.
SPEAKER_01For a job.
SPEAKER_03For a job opportunity. So these were said in these were said in interviews? These were said, apparently. Um when you're asked what was your most impactful or interesting project. I guess one of the worst things is I can't think of one. Can't think of a single thing? That's what somebody said, yes. Oh or hmm. I'm trying to think. Hmm. Or well, I haven't done anything interesting, but that's a bad answer, apparently, too. I may have given that one a couple times. Oh, really? I remember I do remember sending an interview. These are not mine, these were actually written up. My response was I remember going into an interview one time and somebody asking me like something about what was one of the most interesting things, uh projects that you like uh um did or were a part of, and I'm like I believe I'm it was college, I may have been hung over a little bit, and I'm like, shit, I don't remember anything right now, but and I did not get hired. I believe it or not.
SPEAKER_02I I can't I think I have said something along the lines of, well, do I gotta work that late on Friday? You know, I think I said something like that.
SPEAKER_00See, no, what what answers have you guys given?
SPEAKER_03That's what I'm interested in.
SPEAKER_02I I I usually I've been trained pretty good. I I've had many jobs though. So I'm kind of a professional interviewer. Sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Dan's probably really good in it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I made my uh when I went to school, I majored in registration. So that was my shoes in my way into but the actual work part was harder for me. So that that went over. But I normally interviewed pretty good. Uh-huh. Uh I would look up the person that I was interviewing with. Like I would talk to other people. Like I would I would call the secretaries. I'm like, do you mean it is he out on the golf course right now? Oh no, he's in his thing. Oh, do you know, do you know his wife, Sheila? No, but tell me all about it. And they would they were you'd be surprised how before the internet, that's what I would used to do. You did that? You'd be like, you'd you'd be like stalking them before a schmoozing guy. Wow.
SPEAKER_03That's impressive. Yeah, yeah. That's pretty Amy? Anything?
SPEAKER_01Uh I'm not as good.
SPEAKER_03You were a cop though, Amy.
SPEAKER_01I was.
SPEAKER_03Did you have to give like crazy interview answers?
SPEAKER_01Well, we had to get we did situational stuff. It was more like if you're on duty and this happens, what would you do? Type stuff.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So if you got a guy and he just pulls down his pants and you gotta you gotta take him in because that's well, that's a tase for sure.
SPEAKER_03Okay, good. That's a taste.
SPEAKER_01That's a hands-off, tase only.
SPEAKER_02Poor guy. He probably some kind of insanity. And he was like, tase him! Taze and done.
SPEAKER_01Hands down, taste. I just want to guarantee every day.
SPEAKER_02He wakes up the next day. I put my pants on today. I put my pants on. That's right. Don't hurt me. We'll learn you.
SPEAKER_01We'll learn you. Yeah. Put my pants on.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Amy was I would have thought Amy would have more interesting stories than than interview stuff. Right?
SPEAKER_03Oh, oh, for clearly, yes, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, there's yeah, there's stories with that, and then when I worked at the Emmy's office.
SPEAKER_03Oh medical examiner?
SPEAKER_01But yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I'm sure that's full of yikes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, kind of weird things. Weird ways. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh, God. Uh but anyway. I think one of my most interesting uh interviews that I ever had was somehow I got included in I I applied for a general manager position at a hotel in town here. And I got all the way to the last interview.
unknownReally?
SPEAKER_03Me and one other one one other lady. And during the interview, they were asking us these answers. And I'm like, you know, I'm just, I just uh I just want to have fun and you know get paid good money and uh, you know, be successful in something like this. Sounds cool. I have no experience whatsoever. Hey, you know, and it's my job, I'll do it my way. You know, the lady loved me, and the husband was more business like, and he was like, um, so what would you do in my position? And I said to him, Oh, clearly I'd probably hire this lady here who has business back training and everything else, but I wouldn't hire me, but I'm here.
SPEAKER_00Rick.
SPEAKER_03So I didn't get the job. That's I was a little too honest, perhaps. But I did say I would probably do the job better, but she's got more experience. So I mean, yeah, clearly I don't think I'm gonna get it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you got Rick there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, God. Well, um, did you want a good answer of what that uh sure? So a good answer they're saying what was your most impactful, interesting project. Dan would answer. I had this great idea, uh, and then I saved 15 billion dollars all by myself, and I loved it. I don't even need to be here right now. Right? Yeah. So um another question asked, why do you have this gap in your work experience? Oh. This one I've been at I've been asked. And I I've said, well, I've had so many jobs like when I was young, I didn't I didn't I can't remember half of them.
SPEAKER_01Right, right.
SPEAKER_02I started a business for with kids called Little Hands Across America. And we sell this this this white, you know, energy powder that that they can.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, bad answer. Uh some some bad answers are I hated my boss, so I quit. Oh, another one was I got burned out and needed to meditate in the desert for six months.
SPEAKER_01Okay, Rogers.
SPEAKER_03These are answers that were given. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he skipped mini camp too. Like he just decided he wasn't gonna go.
SPEAKER_03He's missed it now?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He like went one day or some craziness, and now yeah, he just I don't know.
SPEAKER_03That's gonna be a whole nother I can't wait to see him get pelted again.
SPEAKER_02I wonder if there comes a point where if you're making so much money that you don't need to listen to anybody at all. Well, clearly I think he's gonna be. And that's why they do it the contracts way, I suppose. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But New York's already roasting them. They're calling him Aaron Dodgers because he's dodging all camps. But anyway, moving on, sorry.
SPEAKER_03Uh another a good answer was uh I couldn't find a job, so I I couldn't finish the job, so they fired me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, that deserves a round two interview.
SPEAKER_03A good answer to this question of why do you have a gap in your work experience would be something like Dan would say, I planned ahead and took some time off to spend more time with my kids and test out a startup idea I had pans across America. While the startup didn't pan out, I loved the time I spent with my kids.
SPEAKER_02Wow. That was a good answer. Yeah, maybe you shouldn't. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Were you in jail?
SPEAKER_02Because I didn't want to work for six months. All right. I was in jail for a year. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Whoops.
SPEAKER_01We can look it up.
SPEAKER_03Why do you want to work here? Here's another good question. Why do you want to work here? I need money and it looks like an easy job.
SPEAKER_01Right?
SPEAKER_03Yep. I applied everywhere. I don't necessarily care. I just need a job. That was the first one.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03I don't really care. I just need a job.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_03Right. Another answer, bad one, is you you pay the best. Why wouldn't I?
SPEAKER_02Well No, I th I disagree. I think I think you could say that hey, you guys pay pretty darn good compared to most. Yeah. I I don't think that's a problem.
SPEAKER_01I think it's just the way you deliver it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I think one of the best answers here is uh I needed I needed I needed five interviews for my unemployment.
SPEAKER_01Oh yes. We get that a lot.
SPEAKER_03I think your daughter's hot. Which makes Can you say that? It's not on here, but that should be. Now, what's a great answer? I think your brother's hot. This is the company I want to work for uh for more than any other company. In particular, this team. As you can see from my work history, I worked with satellites and blah, blah, blah. But this team is doing exactly what I've dreamed about doing. That's a good answer.
SPEAKER_01That's a nice vague, I don't know, nondescript answer.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Yeah. That guy has been trained. At the Dan Academy? Yeah. Right. At the Dan Academy or Show. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Your wife's name's Cheryl.
SPEAKER_02Uh really. I don't know. Listen, I got, I got, I think, I think I deserve this job because me and my good friend Abe Lincoln here. Oh, here we go. Deserve the job and put that right in the pocket. That's exactly right.
SPEAKER_01Did you hear about the they just found all those jars of cherries and fruit underneath Vernon?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Do you didn't hear them? Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_03I did.
SPEAKER_01They think they're from like what 1700s?
SPEAKER_03Yes. From well, from pickled?
SPEAKER_01No, they're like bottled like dried fruit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like cherries. No kid. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's how they uh used to like ferment them, but they must have been forgotten or something.
SPEAKER_01Well, it sounded like when they re like redid the Mount Vernon a long time ago. Like they build the floor over the dirt floor.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01When these are buried in the dirt floor, like an old cellar.
SPEAKER_03You imagine tasting those?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh my god. I wouldn't taste it.
SPEAKER_03I wouldn't either. There's no way I'd be.
SPEAKER_01Martha, make sure you put these away where I can find them next before I'd uh Right, but yeah, they're like bottles and they said that they're pretty much all intact. They're all like in perfect condition.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So anyway, we should probably get them on it. Make a pie. Random.
SPEAKER_02There's probably a label on there or Facebook page.
SPEAKER_03Um that's all I kind of got for this right now. But next time, for next time, I have 25 questions you should never ask on a first date.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that'd be good.
SPEAKER_03So let's think of that. Let's think of all our first.
SPEAKER_01That'd be good to hear.
SPEAKER_02How about just the top like five? You want one? I'd like to. Yeah, give me one. Give me one. Give me one of the top ten. Why are you still single?
SPEAKER_03That's kind of a harsh one. It's like, why are you still sick?
SPEAKER_02What's your what's your problem?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Like they say here, it proposes that there is something wrong with you or wrong with being single.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Nothing wrong with that.
SPEAKER_02Jeez.
SPEAKER_03And you know, if you put these into a different wordage, if you know it's it's how it comes across too. You can say it. Why are you still single? That's okay. Why are you still single? It's a little creepy.
SPEAKER_01Number two That's why I'm still single, because you guys are freaking creepy.
SPEAKER_03Number two is uh what what dating apps are you on? Or what dating apps are you on?
SPEAKER_01Ew creeper.
SPEAKER_03See? Okay.
SPEAKER_01Either way, that's yucky. How many apps can I stalk you on?
SPEAKER_02Like Boy, I feel really good about this. I wish there was another way I could feel even better about this situation. Okay, I'm good.
SPEAKER_01I'll tell you how to feel better about it.
SPEAKER_03So I'll give you number three here. This uh I didn't ask for number three, but you can't. I'm gonna give you number three. All right.
SPEAKER_01Give it to us.
SPEAKER_03You're not crazy, are you?
SPEAKER_01That's a fair question. I'm sorry. That goes both ways. I think I think according to aim.
SPEAKER_02It's pretty fair. You should do a credit check or something before you start. Oh, you gotta C cap them. You gotta C cap them for sure. And then also uh they gotta be uh Facebooked and uh Googled and whatnot.
SPEAKER_01Instagrammed.
SPEAKER_02God, you couldn't do any of that back then. You just had to take it for face value. I dated this one cow that just dumped me like at the at the restaurant. Like like we went to remember Sergio's? Yeah, Sergio's, yeah. I took her out to eat, uh, and then she brought her friend with.
SPEAKER_01Oh, she brought a friend. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02So then we went to Sergio's, and then she left me at Sergio's with her friend? No. Okay, they just took off. And then they were underage, so I turned them into the I turned him into the guy. Oh, and then they kicked him out, and I had a great time with my buddy Keith, the bartender. Nice! There you go. How do you like that map? Well, I didn't have a I mean, like he was bartending. I didn't have a anyway. I think it's I think we're that's good. We're gonna break it up uh for coming. We'll try to do some more of these maybe. This maybe try to do one or two now through the summer here. We're in such demand. It's busy, it's a busy day. But anyway, thanks much for coming, and I'll talk to you. We'll talk to you again. Bye, adios.
