SPEAKER_04Is it recording this time? Yeah, it's recording. I was really hoping no one would talk, but it's the whole beaver podcast.
SPEAKER_05Alright. We are here with cast members from the uh B Deck uh the Shrek the musical down in the V Deck uh community theater downtown here. It is Shrek the musical. I was like, I go, we were we all went in tonight, and they're like, hey, do you want to do a uh we're just gonna do a voices thing and we're not we're no we're not gonna go over everything.
SPEAKER_04What was the word used?
SPEAKER_05Touch up or touch up.
SPEAKER_06And then it was brush up. Brush up, that's it. Brush up, thank you.
SPEAKER_05All right. Why don't we start uh on the uh we'll start with Pinocchio? You guys tell me your names and just tell me what character you play in the show.
SPEAKER_03Hello, my name is Noah and I play Pinocchio.
SPEAKER_04The the Baritone bass is playing the highest voice in the Keisha show. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_03It's fitting. It's fitting.
SPEAKER_04It is very fitting. And it's shocking to your friends, I'm sure.
SPEAKER_03Uh huh.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. All my friends. Less the ones that know you.
SPEAKER_05Oh. Next.
SPEAKER_01Okay, who goes next?
SPEAKER_05Do I have to say next each other?
SPEAKER_01I'll go next. Um, I'm Elise, and I play uh pig number three.
SPEAKER_05And then do you do if you have multiple roles as well?
SPEAKER_01Oh, and I'm in do lock as well.
SPEAKER_05Your do lock dancer.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I'm a doolac dancer.
SPEAKER_05All right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02My name is Nash, and I play pig number two, and I'm also the puppeteer of uh Puss and Boots.
SPEAKER_05Oh which is a good part. That's a good bit when it comes out.
SPEAKER_00Um I'm Caroline. I play pig one, and I'm also the voice of the cow that jumps over the moon.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you didn't even know that. I didn't know that. Yes, I had no idea who those voices were on the ensemble, guys.
SPEAKER_04No, I uh that's right.
SPEAKER_05I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_06That's too cool for us.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, real cool. The reason I brought you for the my daughter uh played uh one of the piggies about 11 years ago for the show in Fonda like. Which one? She was four. I think she was like 15 or 14 or something like that, maybe 16. Uh it was the it was just they'd only do four shows. Yeah, which pig. Which pig? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Hey, that's not nice.
SPEAKER_05I don't know which pig I I know that she's short, so that that she would have paid a shorter, stouter pig burn. Oh, she's short. You she didn't play the short pig. No, no. Okay. No, the short pig isn't said to be killed yet. So I just want you guys to know that how this is going right now, the way things are going, and we can't say too much. It's not how it normally goes. So please. This is new to me. Please, please try to uh not take continue, Rick. Would you say to continue to try out for musicals? Please. Maybe just talk to us.
SPEAKER_03It will never be like this again. It will never be. Hey, we're the we're the guinea pigs.
SPEAKER_05I'm sorry, I know that seems uh a little too inside for our listeners, but that's our insiders. They know six for our six to seven listeners we have, uh including my mother, but that's that's all right. Uh so Rick, what Rick, are you in this musical? I forgot. I play Shrek. Thanks, Dan. That's you?
SPEAKER_04Wait, who's that? That's not me. That's that's not me. All right.
SPEAKER_02Twin brother.
SPEAKER_03This is actually Fiona, the musical. I'm just kind of in it. Speaking of Fiona, man, tonight was amazing. Sarah wasn't there, but we had a Fiona. That's right.
SPEAKER_04Emotionally, the whole kissing scene was uh almost there. I think it was more than what was usually there. Yeah. Uh yeah. What was the other question?
SPEAKER_05So we uh we are all we all are involved with the the Beaver Dam theater in many, many ways. Uh but what I'm trying to figure out is so why why did why did you guys try out for this pipe? Have you guys been in other musicals? I mean, other than high schools, like non-high school ones.
SPEAKER_03Yes, that's a great question. So uh it was the only uh option, really. I mean love hearing that. Oh okay.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, okay. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03It was it was the only option, and I was like, you know what, why not? So at UW Milwaukee, I sent in a virtual um audition. Uh oh, I didn't know that. Yeah, and I sung Agony from Into the Woods, playing both parts, you know, really like playing it on. However, I sang in my like my normal voice, you know. I you know, was just going for a role, and then crazy story, I get a call saying from David, do you can can you do the Pinocchio voice? And this was like a couple days before this. And I go, I go, no, listen to this, listen to this. I go, Yeah, yeah, I could, I could probably do that. He goes, Okay, we'll consider you. Don't do the voice for him or anything. And I sit down, and then two days later, I said he I get a text from David, and he says, Hey, can you be Pinocchio? I was like, you know what, sure, we'll try her out. Wow. So luckily for everyone else, Noah can do the voice. No doubt. I mean, that could have been really bad.
SPEAKER_04Really bad as a big thing.
SPEAKER_03Here's my Pinocchio voice. Um I'm not a puppet, I'm a real boy. What? Oh no, that's a real man. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_05He really took a he really took a chance. Did anybody that you know sing Agony from uh back what was it?
SPEAKER_01Into the woods.
SPEAKER_05Into the woods. Was that my song? That was your song. Oh, that was my song. You say I sang that in Into the Woods, yeah. Yeah, wow.
SPEAKER_04Which was no idea. Long show. That was a long time ago. It was about three hours long.
SPEAKER_01When my uncle and aunt did it? Or yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. What year was that? Do you remember? No. How old are they? Probably the same year.
SPEAKER_01How old are they? I don't know.
SPEAKER_04How old were you?
SPEAKER_01How old was I? That's a really great question.
SPEAKER_04Probably ten years ago?
SPEAKER_01I just know that that's when they met.
SPEAKER_04At the old little theater? Yeah, at the old theater. That's that I was in that one. With Amy Friedel? Yes. Yeah. I was the wolf.
SPEAKER_06I was the wolf that got eaten.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, we do a lot, we do lots of stuff. Oh no, we do lots of stuff. They do uh upstairs stuff. It's it's just jam-packed. But one thing that I do miss is having that big time for it. Because when we did this mus like these musicals in the past, we had like two months of open space to do stuff. We used to have them at the high school. Yeah, that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_03And now it's gotta cram it in there and it's with three other shows and horrific scheduling.
SPEAKER_05They get mixed emotions about between having a real set and then like the drop, you know, the scenes and the background stuff. And then also we need to, you know, the projector. I mean, there's all the there's this controversy.
SPEAKER_03I mean, when you think about it, it's it's not about the set or anything, it's about the story and like how people tell it. So I think I was in the same boat of like, oh, I hate projections, you know, I hate this. But you know, it's it's not about the projections, it's about the people acting in it. And making bad things. Right, that's true.
SPEAKER_04And the performance you can put on your performance part. How about the biggies?
SPEAKER_05Have you guys been in any other stuff? Not not high school music, but like stuff that's outside of the Ross.
SPEAKER_02Well, I do I've done a few shows here at Beat Act.
SPEAKER_04Um this is Nash, right? I can't see you having a TV. Um Shakespeare thing, right? Yeah, the Shakespeare thing.
SPEAKER_02It was a it was a great experience. Right. Uh David actually directed one of those shows as well. And so Lucky you. It was it was a good uh it was good, it was fun.
SPEAKER_04That was well done.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_04I really enjoyed those shows. Yeah, those were really cool. And it was crammed, right? Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02We had less than a month. Yeah, we had like four weeks. We had like four weeks to do the two Shakespeare shows. It was crazy. It was insane.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely crazy. I know some Shakespeare, but Shakespeare doesn't have any musicals, right? It's all no, it's just plays. It's all fancy. Yeah, just fancy talk. The fancy talk just house with the two households, both alike and dignity. Just say they're both dead. Yeah, it's they're similar. You don't have to say alike and depending on the biggest. Oh no, I have to.
SPEAKER_02Lucky for me, um, I played uh Prospera in the Tempest, and that one was the less wordy of the two. Uh lucky.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, it worked out great for you.
SPEAKER_05Oh no, it wasn't. What would you play?
SPEAKER_00Um I was Mark Anthony and Julius Caesar, so I had all of the wordy monologues. Can confirm.
SPEAKER_02It was really funny though. Because one the night before our last Julius Caesar show, um I David came up to me and he's like, Yeah, so Kaylee's not gonna be there. Kaylee, she's actually my roommate in college now. Um I love her to death. Um and so yeah.
SPEAKER_06Good to clarify. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, I I do love her. Um But he's like, he's like, yeah, um, so can you do this scene? It's got this giant monologue, and I'm like, Tomorrow?
SPEAKER_05You're like, wow. Yeah, David, sure. I was like, you know, yeah, fine.
SPEAKER_02I was like, absolutely, David.
SPEAKER_03David, please, I'll try. Please, no.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and so I I memorized that. Morning of in the living room, actually. And you did it? You got you had the whole thing. I did it pretty decent. I missed a few parts, but you know.
SPEAKER_04Well, I still do that every night. We know.
SPEAKER_03Great, great.
SPEAKER_02Just the just the important ones though, don't worry.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well, you know. Caroline, how about you?
SPEAKER_00Oh. Um This is my first time doing like um the main stage shows, but lots of done lots of other BDAC shows. But yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's been around forever. Yeah, but what about Elise? What about Elise?
SPEAKER_01So I I've been in a lot of musicals everywhere. I started out doing musicals like with Missoula Children's Theater, and they would like come for like a week, and then I would we would have to do that. I don't know that one.
SPEAKER_03Those are cool things.
SPEAKER_01Um it's like 10.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that was like the Princess and the P.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, but that was Compass Creative. That wasn't Missoula. So I started out with Missoula, and that was a couple years, and they would come in for like a week once a year, and we would do a show at the end of the week.
SPEAKER_03Is that usually in winter?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. It was in like January or February. Um and that's how I started out, and then I started like getting into community theater in Fond du Lac. And then I kind of moved my way to Compass Creative in Beaver Dam, which is the same kind of thing, like weeklong shows. Um and then she's stuck. Yeah, no, I'm I'm basically stuck in Beaverdam. Um I love it here.
SPEAKER_04So worst places to be. Yeah. It is worth the hour drive to the street.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's worth the 30-minute drive. Yeah, I drive an hour to be a bit of a few. Do they have the two minutes done? Yeah. It's worth the two minutes. Really?
SPEAKER_05So you're not from Beaverdam? No, no, no. So now Rick and I, we we've been around to other theaters. And we but there's is there anything like Beaver Dam where it's its own central thing, or is it always part of something else?
SPEAKER_01Like the theater is part of the school or the I Fond du Lac is the is a lot like this. Like they have like kids' shows and middle school shows, high school shows. Well, not necessarily high school shows.
SPEAKER_03Is it called a community theater? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Fond du Lac Community Theater. Um and Yeah, they have like main stage and all that. Like they just got done with Guys and Dolls.
SPEAKER_03Um by the way.
SPEAKER_01This isn't like a great show.
SPEAKER_03It is a great show. It's the only show, actually, that's out there. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02The only one. I did that one, played The Drunk. Oh yeah. Nice, nice. We were all in that one. Yeah. We were actually.
SPEAKER_04Fondilec, in my mind, in my history. I've done a lot of stuff with Fondilec. Um, did Rent years ago. Um they have a very similar support, huge support in Fond du Lac community theater.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they definitely do that.
SPEAKER_04And that's one of the great things about that.
SPEAKER_01There are other theater companies as well. There's like, I know Impact Theater is like really like up in the state. Yeah, right. Um they just auditioned for like the hunchback of Notre Dame and they just finished next to normal. Yes. Um, and then there's another theater company that has kind of kind of there's a lot of drama that goes on with it. Like there's drama and theater company. I don't know if you guys heard about it, but it's ghost light theater, and there was a whole walkout with their Jesus Christ superstar cast. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_03And why was that?
SPEAKER_01It's a whole like complicated situation. It's really hard to explain. Oh my god. But the director and the lead was this one guy that I'm not gonna name drop, but uh he's an interesting guy.
SPEAKER_03Drama in the theater? Are you kidding? And it has to do with the director.
SPEAKER_02Oh we've never heard that one before. Yeah. This is a new concept for us, guys.
SPEAKER_04That's good. You should never hear stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01No, we support impact.
SPEAKER_04Speaking of director, impact is good, yes.
SPEAKER_03Speaking of director, you actually were one of my first directors ever in Annie. Yes, Annie. Yes.
SPEAKER_02That's so cute.
SPEAKER_03That was awesome in 2019.
SPEAKER_02Was it a good experience? Is he a good director?
SPEAKER_03I don't have any bad memories from any musical, so thank God. I mean, yeah, it's probably a little uh hard not to have a good experience.
SPEAKER_04I that was uh that was a fun one because uh there were so many kids. I remember getting yelled at.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you really enjoyed that. Yeah. I I've I've been known to do that. That was a fun one because there were so many kids. Probably less so than other people in our X cast.
SPEAKER_06Oh, well, that was fun.
SPEAKER_05That was a good show. So, do you guys do you get bored with the same musicals, the same musical time? I mean, we we have a hard time at with our selection community because we we like we because it's a business too, right? Yeah, so you gotta pick ones that for the community, but also for the people.
SPEAKER_02I do, I do definitely, I get that, and like it's important to do like more popular ones because that's what people are gonna come see. Um but actually I did You're in Town at My School, and everyone was like, what the heck is that? I'm not coming to see a show about piss. So it was actually a really good show.
SPEAKER_05It's a great show. That is a great show. I've never heard I haven't heard of that one. Oh, we are going to don't tell anybody, but we are going to do uh uh what is it, Love Sex and the IRS. I'm gonna have that one uh thrown into the Do it. Yeah, do it. Come into that guy. You'll be the director. Uh Ron's gonna be, I want to be in it.
SPEAKER_03So I want to sound like can I be your uh counterpiece? Is that what it's called? Your cut apart. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05The opposing we try to write like some original stuff. I mean, Rick writes and I write, and we try to get stuff out there and we tried we writing.
SPEAKER_03What's that? We writing we writing. It's where you guys both write together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean, we I mean we collaborate.
SPEAKER_05But I don't want his stuff and my stuff to get mixed up.
SPEAKER_02Gotta keep that a little separate, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_05I do my own laundry. I don't like my guys touching other guys. You won't do my laundry, you won't. You try. Well, but yeah, I do. I hate seeing the same stuff come across to think, oh look, we're doing lay mis. And I'm like, okay, I don't know. I get it. Some of us were in Lay Miz, you know, a year ago, which was phenomenal, by the way. It was pretty damn.
SPEAKER_02I didn't even know about Beaver Dam when that happened.
SPEAKER_05All right. Yeah. And then you know what I mean? So it's it's hard for me to try and find like it's like the I hate recycling stuff, but I know I get it. There's only so many. The thing, the high school Chicago license just came out. Yes. And then regular Chicago. But it's but the content of the Chicago page is a wee bit. This is scandalous.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I definitely this is probably an unpopular opinion, but I get so bored of Mama Mia. Like I would be in the if we had if we did it at BM. But I just I like every high school ever does it, and it's because it's a good show for high schools. Like it's an easy-ish set. You've got like an even number of boys and girls, and like it good songs that people know. But I just get so bored of going to see it. It's like, oh my high school's doing this.
SPEAKER_05There's no twinkle anymore in my eye, right?
SPEAKER_03There's nothing.
SPEAKER_01Like, sure, I'll go see the same musical five times.
SPEAKER_03Then again, you're, you know, you're like, oh, what's Bright Star? You know, I'm not gonna go do Bright Star, but then you're in Bright Star and you're like, oh my god, what a great show. What a great show. However, I can second that. It's like Joey's. Right, but it's like pulling, but also, you know, you don't want to recycle. But then if you don't recycle, then you get this like con of like, well, I don't know that show.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And I'll tell you what.
SPEAKER_05And in in my case as well, I hate doing things that I that are out of what I'm I'm comfortable with a lot. I love, love, love doing comedies, as anyone will say. I love writing the comedy bits. I did a show called Four Glasses, uh, where there was a pretty tough scene, and I had to uh do an Irish accent the whole time. And I took the show just for the Irish accent, and it was every bit of much work as it I knew it was going to be, and every show was what and it just was I felt like studying. Like sometimes you gotta take those parts where it's just like, all right, I'm learning a ton. I'm not gonna be able to do this even if they paid me for it for three months at a time. You know what I'm saying? That kind of thing. But like this show I could do with Rick doing most of the work carrying the load of just being in two scenes. I'd be fine with this. You know what I'm saying? Backstage for two hours. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, we were.
SPEAKER_02Well, I actually beat the Oregon Trail, but sadly only one of our characters survived. Yeah, that was me, by the way. I survived the Oregon Trail. Good job. It was really funny because one of our characters left seven miles from the Oregon Trail.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I'm fed up with this.
SPEAKER_02I'm leaving.
SPEAKER_01That's what we play up in Encore when we're weeds.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when everyone is watching Rick's wonderful performance at the castle. We are playing Oregon Trail.
SPEAKER_05Well, now we know, Dan. Yeah. Well, you know what? I'm up there usually writing. Oh, yeah. He knows. Oh, yeah, yeah. He's been up there. Yeah. He's been up there. I'm trying to finish it. I see. I got a radio script I want to put on for Halloween. I was going to talk to you guys after this as well. Uh so, but for the most part, I I can't help but like theater. I wish I didn't like theater because then it'd be easier. It's so much more time.
SPEAKER_02Wouldn't you just so much less money on gas? Yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_05Is there, I think there's a thing as well with theater folk that we just we have to be we're not normal. No.
SPEAKER_02We have to be I'm so normal. Especially when you get like 50.
SPEAKER_04Normal for us, yes. Yeah, and you get 50 and you're still doing this? I still want to end this podcast right now.
SPEAKER_05Right in the earphones. Wait, do you got a sound effect for that? Oh, yeah, hold on. Oh, no, here it comes. Here we go. There you go. And then I want to pull out his nose here. There we go.
