Just Dan and Amy. No Rick. Amy sums up sports in 30 sec.
Here we go. We're starting it without Rick.
SPEAKER_02Someone's lit.
SPEAKER_01Apparently. Nice. It's the damn beaver module. Hey Ames. How's it going?
SPEAKER_02Uh, that's uh okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just the two of us.
SPEAKER_02It's too freaking hot and sweaty out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Rick is uh working on the sprinkler system, I guess. Sure is. He may or may not come later.
SPEAKER_02He's a dairy queen, we all know. And we don't care.
SPEAKER_01We don't care. We don't need him. He's holding us back. He's not gonna listen. It doesn't matter. We're gonna be fine. It's all good. It got hot again, and it was nice for an hour and a half. It was nice this whole month.
SPEAKER_02From like 3 a.m. to 4 a.m.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then that was it. And then I went out in a moment. It was nice enough for me to get him on my lawn. Now it's now it's not nice anymore. So we got stuff happening down at the theater finally. So uh Death of the Salesman, I got uh talked into doing.
SPEAKER_02I know I saw Rick got talked into the ball. I did not, but it's okay.
SPEAKER_01It's alright. We gotta get it, we gotta get it.
SPEAKER_02So that'll be good.
SPEAKER_01It's a classic, I suppose. Death of the Salesman. Not an upper movie, but you know. Movie play.
SPEAKER_02But still.
SPEAKER_01But still.
SPEAKER_02People know what it is, so it's good.
SPEAKER_01McMillan's the balls in it. So he's you know, he's good. He's got they everyone's got everything memorized. I'm dealing with all the because they had it memorized like two years ago.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So if any if anyone's listening to the B-Dack theater is doing Death of the Salesman coming up here at the end of October. And uh it was supposed to happen like two years ago, and then the pandemic hit, and they were all ready to go, and they didn't get a chance to do it. So they're all r rearing to go. And they had some parts that were sharded, so they kind of called they called me and Rick and now but with just the bit parts just to get to the players. Yeah, the basement guys, the bottom bottom of the barrel. Yeah, scraping with the big scrapers.
SPEAKER_02Thank you.
SPEAKER_01I don't I don't know if those are the words I would use, but that's uh that's definitely what's going on here.
SPEAKER_02That's you.
SPEAKER_01So then uh uh yeah, so then that and then uh stuff going on in the theater. Uh we're gonna try and get the uh we do Shakespeare Company thing and do the uh plays. Uh from Shakespeare. That'd be fun. Uh I think me and Ryan and uh Kevin are gonna try that. We're gonna try to get that maybe in the upstairs part.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the smaller, yeah. That'd be cool.
SPEAKER_01We haven't we have an offer. We'll try to get into the show committee. But uh yeah, we've been on pretty damn hot.
SPEAKER_02It's crapping hot and uh ridiculous.
SPEAKER_01Everybody's tired and we're so understood at work.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, are you guys we're getting a lot of people again exposed to COVID, so then we all we all have to stay home. Whether you have it or not.
SPEAKER_01Right? Like you get paid or does it take it out of your bucket?
SPEAKER_02Well, now you have to use your own vacation. Last time they paid for it, but not now. Okay, so unfortunately. I don't know if I like that. Stay the fuck away from everyone. It is so hard.
SPEAKER_01I mean, we're just getting out of it. We're always gonna be wearing masks, I think, for a long time. For the healthcare people.
SPEAKER_02Happy birthday.
SPEAKER_01Uh I think he's 20. We got a message from right now.
SPEAKER_02That's nice.
SPEAKER_01Uh for next week. It says why playing imaginary swords with pool sticks under a sprinkler head is a bad idea, so that's why he's not here. So somebody was there playing swords uh with pool sticks. Uh I don't know how old they were.
SPEAKER_02Uh they wrecked the sprinkler system by the way.
SPEAKER_01They must have been twirling it around or whatever.
SPEAKER_02I guess. I don't know. It is hot out.
SPEAKER_01It's freaking hot.
SPEAKER_02I mean, if it's sweaty mixed sweater.
SPEAKER_01I'm just I've just had it. Uh and then uh my dog is just I don't know. I don't know. It's our topic for the day.
SPEAKER_02It's too freaking hot. That's the freaking thing.
SPEAKER_01And I'm sure we'll get a lot of people just who want to be. But actually, we should probably just get right into the war. Here we go.
SPEAKER_02Oh, still going on, eh? Revolutionary war.
SPEAKER_01It's still going. When will it end? Benedict Arnold. He's done. He's uh he's gone.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so awful. You know, we just he never had a chance to talk to him. We're gonna talk about that quickly. So uh uh, so Benedict Arnold made his decision, his wife, he's gonna leave, and we're gonna read onto that later. We're gonna go to Washington first and then we'll summarize what happened there.
SPEAKER_02Okay, doak.
SPEAKER_01So uh Washington, uh just this one assault uh this year is gonna be demanded of Washington here by Congress. It's ordered uh that he's gonna be have a major campaign this year, and he's gonna lead the North into the lands occupied the nation of the Iroquois.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay, because of course they were here first, and we have to take that. Uh he's we're gonna have to go take it from the Indians. This is the sad part that we have to know about our people, right? So stretching uh east to west across the land that will become New York State. So this is weird. Uh the Iroquois nation consists of the Mohawk, the Oneida, the Yoham, the Daga, the Cayuga, the Seneca, and the Tuscarora. That's a lot of tribes.
SPEAKER_02That's a lot. And they were all together. They should have kicked our ass.
SPEAKER_01And they are all together, but they don't have guns or muskets or anything. So they this is what's really sad. It was so peaceful. They called it the Thousand Year Peace before we got here.
SPEAKER_02Of course.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh the largest confederation of tribes in the Northeast would be a powerful uh addition to either side of the revolution. So they're gonna try to get them to fight. They're in a weird position. For most of the war, Native American involvement has been a limited affair. Various tribes making short-term deals before individual in individual battles, all right? Now, the Iroquois nation, like all who lived on American soil, find themselves in a position to take a side of the war, which is hard. So there's not a great option. It's the least painful option or the option that seems to serve their interests, right? Partly it's a calculation about who's gonna win the war.
SPEAKER_02Well, right.
SPEAKER_01You know, they don't know, British or the Americans. But the British have an inside track, a strong connection to the Mohawk warrior named Joseph Brandt. Really? So Joseph Brandt, he was born in Ohio, and his Indian name was uh mean translates into he who uh places two bets, is what it's called. An appropriate name for a man who has spent his life uh with white and Indian society. All right. Born to Mohawk parents, he was introduced at an early age to a man of great wealth, the British Superintendent of Indian Fairs, Sir W Sir William Johnson, who took Joseph under his wing and raised him as his own son.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Why'd they do that? The Canadians do that did this too. They take away their firstborn kids uh to wipe out the seed of bee so that they don't spread. Yeah. It's really awful.
SPEAKER_02Really? Come on.
SPEAKER_01It's really it. Canada did this too.
SPEAKER_02White people suck.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. It's it was awful. Uh uh so Brandt's family has a connection with Sir Johnson that lands them on a far-flung trip across the sea to another land, Great Britain. Presented as a representative of the Iroquois people, Brandt meets with King George III and is promised that his people will be able to keep their lands after the war if they win, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Promise.
SPEAKER_01If they settle, you know, if they settle with if they side with the crown. It's a promise that Brandt takes back with him to America and he brings his case before the Iroquois Tribal Council. Uh there is a grand debate, uh reminiscent of our own debate about independence with all the warriors and the leaders and women who were included in this debate as well. Uh they were all women were included and held much higher uh in that. Yeah. Joseph Brandt started off, he said we have to join with somebody because somebody is going to win, which is uh uh two. Which someone's gonna win the war. I mean, war is war. We have to take a side, we have no choice. Death is death, and a fight is a hard business, he says. Uh we should be cautious before taking up the hatchet. This is uh classic debate between the hawks and the doves. That's what they call themselves. Okay, Indians. Okay, and we see it over and over in history where there's an Indian council among the Iroquois, and uh, there's many debates, and as always, the the hawks prevail, which is aside. Now, it is a decision that comes with a high price. Four of the Iroquois tribes agreed to take up arms for the British, but the Oneida and the Tusca and the Tuscora, swayed by missionaries loyal to the American cause, refused Brandt's appeal. So this nice peaceful tribe of six people that lived together for a thousand years. Yeah, we'll just tear that up. We're gonna rip that apart.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna make you pick sides.
SPEAKER_01Uh uh once under British command, Brandt and his warriors are ordered to raid villages along the New York frontier. All right. Uh but although they are fighting for their own land, Brandt is portrayed much differently in the American press is that we would do that. He becomes known as a monster in Brandt, and the newspaper is filled with vivid accounts of his attacks. Yet there are few articles of the vicious uh retaliation and assaults by the American settlers to the Indians, naturally. This is truce, let's get it out there. The press coverage of Indian raids is an immediate effect, and George Washington is ordered by the Continental Congress to mount an offensive against the Iroquois. All right. They call them savages. Of course. Naturally they would. Washington deploys a mission and leaves no doubt as to the goal. Here's Washington at his worst. Here's what he says. Oh boy. The immediate objects, uh the immediate objects are the total destruction and devastation of their settlements and the capture of as many prisoners of every age and sex as possible, lay waste to all settlements around the country, uh, that the country may not be merely overrun but destroyed. George Washington.
SPEAKER_04Yikes.
SPEAKER_01All right. So the language that the Americans use about overrunning and destroying is language that they would not use about the British. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, they want us to concentrate on a different thing. Right.
SPEAKER_01That is not how they're going to fight the British. They were going to do uh it was going to be in a very controlled situation, whereas with them, they're going to treat them wrong. Uh August 1779, four uh 1,500 Continental soldiers, uh, what is it? Yeah, four 1,500 sets of Continental soldiers descend upon their first target, the Iroquois border, town of Newtown, New York. Washington's forces burn the village to the ground, and a mass exodus begins ahead of the advancing army. Thousands of the Iroquois from the Mohawk and all the other tribes and Seneca tribes march overland to the safety of the British forts to the to west of the Niagara Falls. So the people, Indian villages, the orchards, wheat fields, cornfields, in other words, they scorched, it's a scorched earth polite. They burned everything. It was intense. Uh the idea was to destroy the Indian resistance, and it didn't work. The warriors had nothing left to live for other than to fight. So they continued to raid against the Patriot settlements of the next year, as one American officer commented, the nests are destroyed, but the birds are still on the wing. All right. With the Iroquois now forced from their lands, Washington turns his attention to another pressing matter.
SPEAKER_03Ooh.
SPEAKER_01Whenever George Washington needed an experienced field commander, he called on Benedict Arnold. Arnold knew that you had to attack the British and get out there and hit them and hit them hard, and then you have to hit them over and over again. But before Washington can act on a new commission for Arnold, there is a political matter to tend to. Now remember, uh a final ruling in the case against Arnold, remember, charges of uh profiteering while in charge of Philadelphia, charges uh leveled by the governor of Pennsylvania, Joseph Reed. Reed, in his personal quest to show his power by seeing Arnold convicted, is backed the charges with a threat to withdraw Pennsylvania uh and support of the war, which he had to all the wagons, remember? Yep. And Washington needing all the supplies he can get sees no choice but to give in. But instead of just doing it right away, his harsh rebuke against Arnold uh is to placate Reed. He hasn't had a chance to talk to Arnold yet. Right, right. Uh once the uh fair blows over, Washington can finally make General Arnold a glorious offer. All right, that's what his goal is to return to a field command, despite his disability from falling on the horse, right? Right, right. He doesn't know yet that he's changed his mind. With no knowledge of Joseph Reed's threat, Arnold receives Washington's decision. So he doesn't know about Reed's threat. And finally, he receives Washington's decision. The words are stinging, reprehensible, and imprudent and improper for the embattled American general. Uh it is the last straw, passed over for promotion. He feels gravely injured at Saratoga and now reprimanded by Washington. Arnold is pushed to the edge. Benedict Arnold will now betray America. All right. Arnold contemplates his terms, and he contemplates his terms. 20,000 pounds in a command of his own is offered to him by the British uh general of the British Army. Arnold has faced his changed since the revolution began. He felt that he had been given a very raw deal. And I think the biggest misconception about Arnold's treason is he is that he did it for the money, all right? I don't think that he did it that way. I think he did it uh because of his pride, okay, and the money was secondary, all right. In return, Arnold will offer uh uh a mighty fort to the royals, all right. It is the key to defending the Hudson River, even bears the uh general's name, Fort Arnold, also known as West Point.
SPEAKER_04Oh, nice.
SPEAKER_01All right, just 60 miles off, and a lot of people don't know this about West Point, just 60 miles north of New York City. West Point is a critical post on the banks of the Hudson River. Located in the middle of the Hudson Highlands, it's the fortress guards a sweeping S-curve in the mighty river. All right. So at West Point, the river remains its its its its key, which is say sometimes it flows south and other times it flows north, so it's very hard to navigate. Uh, this made West Point an ideal place to mount cannons on both sides of the river as ships had to navigate this very tricky curve, all right. It is a prize that the British have coveted since the beginning of the war, but have never been able to take with a military offensive. Now Arnold offers uh to deliver the post and begins to lobby George Washington uh for a command of the fort. Wow. All right, and August 1st, 1780, uh George Washington summons Benedict Arnold to a meeting just south of West Point.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01All right, New York City. What New York. Washington has a surprise for the general. He's so excited to finally meet him and tell him this. Surprise for the general, it's a powerful field assignment and a glorious return to action. Control of the entire left wing, uh, let's see, of the Continental Army with uh half of America's best infantry. It's huge. Washington takes his leave, and the offer is on the table. It is something that Benedict Arnold would have jumped at just months earlier, but his treasonous plot has been set into motion now. Flustered, he pleads uh he is too crippled to assume command, which is out of character for Benedict Arnold. Only a stationary post, a desk job will do, he told the president. It is a reaction that leaves the commander-in-chief confused. George Washington is puzzled that Benedict Arnold uh would want a command of West Point, which is, you know, uh that's him. Yeah, Washington warrant wanted to put him back into the line of battle as his number three general, but Arnold insisted on West Point because that was the deal that he had with the British. Uh Arnold refuses to back down, and Washington finally yields. The command of West Point is now his. August 3rd. Now in charge, Arnold wastes no time in laying the groundwork for his treason. As the new commandant of West Point, Benedict Arnold deliberately weakened the fortifications, transferred men to distant posts where they couldn't reinforce a British attack. Nice, moved guns around, and they would have made it. Uh, very easy for the British to take his place. Arnold prepares a detailed intelligence of West Point. He's very detailed. Troop numbers and positions, the numbers and locations of the cannons, details of the surrounding terrain, and sends word to the British major John Andre, friends with his wife, remember, okay, loyal, that uh uh that he is ready for a meeting. Arnold's treason is just days away. Uh September 21st, uh 2 p.m. 2 a.m. They meet at night. Just south of West Point on the banks of the Hudson River, Benedict Arnold and John Andre meet for the first and last time. Arnold goes over the plans with Andre in great detail, making sure they are clear that no question goes unanswered and that the plot is completed, otherwise he's screwed. Right. It is not, it is a thoroughness that takes time, and the meeting lasts for more than two hours. Okay. And when the two-part company, Andre carefully slips the plans into his boot.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01September 24th. Breakfast at the Arnold residence is seemingly a normal affair. Today, Arnold's expecting a special guest, General George Washington. Oh shit. All right. It will be his last meeting with Washington, after which he and Peggy will slip behind enemy lines. So he has to placate Washington. But Arnold receives a dispatch that changes everything. John Andre has just been captured. Oh. And on him is the plans for West Point.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Arnold believes that it is only a matter of time before the plot is uncovered, and he rushes to Peggy's room together, and they burn any evidence of the treasonous plot. And taking two pistols and a horse, Arnold makes a hasty getaway. When Washington arrives at the Arnold home, it is clear that something is amiss.
SPEAKER_04No shit.
SPEAKER_01An officer brings the news of Andre's capture and the confiscated documents. But Arnold is nowhere to be found. A terrible, incredible truth strikes him. Only one man could generate such detailed maps. The commandant of the fort, uh, Benedict Arnold sold out to the British. And it is said that for the third time in George Washington's life, he'd lost his shit. And it said that he put his hand on the table and just moved everything across the table just now. Listen to this. We forget that uh George Washington is off-soul a sexist because of his time. Well, of course. He's got faults. All right, you ready?
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_01The remaining question is who else knew about the plot?
SPEAKER_02Oh my God.
SPEAKER_01Washington goes to Peggy Shippen's room. But she but to the commander's eyes, she is suffering from the shock of her husband's treason. When Washington arrives at the house, she is weeping, crying that this terrible thing has happened. She has nothing to do with that. She knows n uh she knows nothing uh about this. And Washington buys it because he's a sexist.
SPEAKER_04Sucker.
SPEAKER_01That George Washington is a sexist. He didn't believe a woman could have pulled off such an act or have been at the heart and brain of such a plot.
SPEAKER_04So he lets her go.
SPEAKER_01October 2nd, noon, ten days after his capture, John Andre is uh the one who pays for the treason of Benedict Arnold. And his request for an officer's death by firing squad is denied. He will suffer the death of a spy which is hanging. Oh the ever-honorable gentleman Andre puts on his own blindfold and his own noose. At 30 years of age, John Andre is both the youngest and highest ranking officer executed in the Revolution. The British held New York City. Uh, there is a new officer in their ranks, a Connecticut-born patriot, hero to the revolutionary cause, British Brigadier General Benedict Arnold. Were it not for his treason, he would almost undoubtedly be one of the most celebrated American commanders of all the American Revolution. West Point would be this day, to this day, probably called Fort Arnold rather than West Point. And if the Americans had lost the revolution, Benedict Arnold would have been Duke Arnold. And Washington would have been hanged and drawn and quartered. And that is all we are doing today.
SPEAKER_02Damn.
SPEAKER_01You can't write shit like that.
SPEAKER_02Well, and back then too, yeah, it took like months to get messages, and half the time you didn't get them, and people messed with the city.
SPEAKER_01If they'd have had cell phones, oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. They would have known crap right away.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we probably would have lost for sure right in the beginning. Remember that fog and stuff? They would have been able to see that.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Oh Lord.
SPEAKER_02Wow. That's craziness.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, Benedict. Too bad.
SPEAKER_02Well, you chose poorly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you chose poorly. Now all you have is Benedict Cumberback to who took his name. That was it. That's the only popular person I know who's got that first name of Benedict.
SPEAKER_02Benedict, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Benedict Cumberback, and he's he's a nice fellow. He's a very good actor.
SPEAKER_02Have you met him?
SPEAKER_01He was a Sherlock. He's not a nice guy. No, I haven't met him. He seems like a nice guy. He seems reasonable. Shut up.
SPEAKER_02He seems reasonable.
SPEAKER_01He totally rocks.
SPEAKER_02Damn right.
SPEAKER_01Well, there's no need to get cut. We'll do it twice.
SPEAKER_02Twice. It totally rocks. Okay, then. Just in case you didn't hear it the first time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, you gotta do it twice in one thing.
SPEAKER_02Well, this first story is just I'm gonna get this one out of the way because it's just ugh.
SPEAKER_01Is that the one I say? No. Oh, okay, good.
SPEAKER_02No. This is just the picture's disgusting.
SPEAKER_01Thank God we're on nobody can see it. Oh, God. I'm sure. Go ahead. Make make uh my radio for the mind.
SPEAKER_02The whole title is even just nasty.
SPEAKER_01All right. Why are you doing it?
SPEAKER_02Because it's I don't know, because it's just gross. Go ahead. Venomous sea snake.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That charges divers may just be looking for love. But it literally looks like a huge long body of a snake or an eel, but then the face is a snake.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Frickin gross. And guess where it's from?
SPEAKER_01Because it's harny.
SPEAKER_02I guess it's harny.
SPEAKER_01Australia?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Uh-huh. I'm telling you, I'm not going.
SPEAKER_02I know, man. Don't get in the fucking water.
SPEAKER_01I'm a pansy. I'm not going to Australia. I dare not go two feet in the water and Oxford.
SPEAKER_02It's nice. Staying right here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just stay away from about four feet over there and right over there. Right. Why is that? Some device off.
SPEAKER_02Right? Venomous snee snakes.
SPEAKER_01A Tasmanian sea snake. That's what you want by.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Numerous scuba divers in places like Australia's imperiled Great Barrier Reef have reported what they interpreted as unprovoked attacks by venomous sea snakes, especially the olive snee snake, sea snake, which can reach lengths of six feet.
unknownOh my God.
SPEAKER_02Divers say the snakes which breathe air but spend their entire lives in the ocean sometimes come hurtling out of the blue, swimming in rapid zigzags straight at a person.
SPEAKER_01Because they're harny.
SPEAKER_02These encounters almost never result in divers getting bitten, but the apparent aggression from animals packing deadly neurotoxic venom is enough to alarm most experienced people firsthand.
unknownGod.
SPEAKER_02They likely harbor no malice towards humans because by visiting their home, but instead they suggest these underwater dust-ups are actually cases of mistaken identity, but the understandably shaken divers have been being caught in a crossfire sea snake's urgent quest to find love during the winter mating season.
SPEAKER_01Australia has some of the cutest mammals on the planet. They got the koala bear, they got that one smiling thing that I can't think of. Right. And then they have Tasmania Devil.
SPEAKER_02And they got shit like this and sharks and all kinds of these fucking nasty ass snakes and spiders.
SPEAKER_01I admire them and I'm afraid of them at the same time. So whatever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. This picture is just fucking haunting. It's literally, it looks like a huge body of an eel, and then it's a snake. But then it's quick, like they're quick moving. So eels are just like and they're venomous. Like if they get you neurotoxin shit, like you're done. Toast. Stay on land. You're not swimming anymore.
SPEAKER_01We don't have to learn more stuff in the ocean. Just stay out for a little while. Why do we gotta search and stuff? I don't want to learn anymore. I'm good.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I'm happy with all the stuff we got right now.
SPEAKER_02Right, right. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01It's yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so next. This is a little bit better.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Apparently, baby bats babble like human infants. Really? Yeah. It says, um, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Humans are not only the species who babble. New research published in a peer-reviewed journal Science shows that baby bats babble as they begin developing their own communication skills.
SPEAKER_01Baby bats babble.
SPEAKER_02Baby bats babble. In Panama and Costa Rica, that's where they were testing about 40 of these, they call them pups, as baby bats are called, which I didn't know.
SPEAKER_01Because they're mammals, right?
SPEAKER_02I guess.
SPEAKER_01Sure. You don't seem convinced.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I know bats are really odd for me to look at. They're really they're just they're cool-y looking, but yet they're I know that they're important, and if we kill them off, you know, we'll we'll lose all of them. Well, they eat bugs and they eat cake batter or something, some shit like that. But we'll leave we'll leave them alone. Just leave them alone.
SPEAKER_02Right, just leave them alone, let them do their thing and whatever.
SPEAKER_01Let them do bad stuff.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, apparently they vocalize, including repetition of syllables used by adults and the rhythmic use of sounds similar to the da-da-da made by human infants. Oh shit. Yep. God. Yeah, I didn't I didn't know they like talked. I mean, I knew they had like high frequency sounds, but I didn't realize like they babble like they're trying to like actually say not words, but like things that are different. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. Very interesting.
SPEAKER_02Anyway.
SPEAKER_01I don't think I'd want a bat though, dude. If they didn't have rape, they eat mosquitoes and stuff, but they have raped. Yeah, and they're very I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. We gotta leave them alone.
SPEAKER_02Like you like them, but you don't trust them. Right.
SPEAKER_01Like Yeah, I know they have an important thing. Just leave nature alone. Just leave it be for a bit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. The next thing I have also bought an animal.
SPEAKER_01Are we gonna talk about all right?
SPEAKER_02There's other stuff. There's other stuff.
SPEAKER_01All right, go ahead. Yeah. We're gonna have to apparently Mr. Come and Go as he pleases isn't here today.
SPEAKER_02Must be nice. Must be nice. Must be nice to just skip whenever you want. Anywho, uh, this is kind of funny. There's like somebody's, you know, have the ring doorbells.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02So this lady got notified that her Amazon package got delivered.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_02And then like 10 minutes later, she got notified that there was someone at the door, and it's a black bear stealing the package off the porch.
SPEAKER_00Was it food?
SPEAKER_02No, it was toilet paper. Well, like sharmin, I guess.
SPEAKER_01I I always knew they shit in the woods, but I didn't know.
SPEAKER_02Right?
SPEAKER_01You know?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01It's a sharmin bear, probably.
SPEAKER_02I that's what I just said.
SPEAKER_01They are adorable. Oh, did you say then?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01All right, you're ahead of me. All right, I'm sorry. Jesus. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Anything. Whatever. Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Whatever.
SPEAKER_01Sorry about that.
SPEAKER_02This one is more for you.
SPEAKER_01All right, go ahead.
SPEAKER_02This is kind of scary. I know you like roller coasters.
SPEAKER_01I do.
SPEAKER_02But this one.
SPEAKER_01It's man. Did it go off the rails? I hate that. I would never do it another.
SPEAKER_02Oh, where the hell did the thing go? God damn it.
SPEAKER_01Hold on, I'll just talk amongst myself.
SPEAKER_02Well, apparently, I don't know what happened to the um thing here. Jerks. Anyway, um in Japan, apparently there is the fastest roller coaster in the world.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Have you heard about this in Japan?
SPEAKER_01I thought it was in Disney. 62 miles an hour it went.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, nope.
SPEAKER_01What's that one? I'm gonna look it up.
SPEAKER_02No, I was trying to. I don't know what happened to my thing here. Uh Dopa. See, now of course it won't show up. Of course not, because we're doing this, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well what's the what was it? What country was it?
SPEAKER_02It's in Japan.
SPEAKER_01Uh anyway. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Apparently, it's been running for like 20 years.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02But it runs at like I want to say it's like 200 miles an hour.
SPEAKER_01What? No, this is 100. This is 112 miles an hour. The doo-doon de pa. Yes. The doo doon de pa.
SPEAKER_02But apparently lately, people have been riding it and their bones are breaking. So they shut it down. Hell yeah. And they're trying to. What the hell? Yeah. Like they're coming off and like wrists are broke and sh ankles are like.
SPEAKER_01You know, the the Japanese, they they got no probably codes for that kind of stuff. So they probably just make it, yeah, we're going to we're gonna make it just uh right? But I mean, and when you look at a race car driver, they're going over two. Aren't they going like 190 or something like that or 180? Yeah. So look at all the stuff they gotta wear.
SPEAKER_02Or indie cars are going above 200, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Look at all the stuff they gotta wear.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I would imagine yeah, that's pretty fast.
SPEAKER_02It's freaking scary as hell.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I see it. Okay, here it is. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Did you find it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I did, I found it.
SPEAKER_02And it's like, yeah, it's like crazy fast. But apparently it all of a sudden people are breaking things. So they're trying to figure out if they're like sticking their arms out and then boom, you know, because you're going that fast.
SPEAKER_01You're going that fast. You keep your hands planted. They should be straight. Your hands should be placed, it should be like an electric chair. Yeah, you should have everything should be buckled.
SPEAKER_02And there's something about like you have to be like there, you can't have any gaps between your back and the seat because something about it will like you can break your neck from getting like whiplash if you're not like strapped completely to the thing.
SPEAKER_01Reportedly suffered a compression fracture of the cervical spine and portion of the vertebrae on the neck. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Neck, chest, bone fractures.
SPEAKER_01All right, that's that's enough.
SPEAKER_02You guys thoracic spine fractures?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the fast so the fastest in the world, if it doesn't come with the safety that goes with it.
SPEAKER_02112.
SPEAKER_01Then it doesn't count.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. First open in 2001, but renovated in 2017, and it can go 120 miles per hour in 1.56 seconds. Gee, I wonder why shit gets broke. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01God.
SPEAKER_02Have fun with that. I will not be going.
SPEAKER_01I'll have to wear a cup.
SPEAKER_02I will meet you at the end of the roller coaster.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because yeah, not doing that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because my balls will be way back in the other when the in the starting. Because there's a thing at uh at Universal, the Hulk ride. Where you launched on that thing. And that's perfectly fine. I mean, it goes about 60, maybe maybe maybe 65. That's plenty fast. You don't have to go 112 miles.
SPEAKER_02112. And then like, what if there's like a bug flies in your eye or like Jesus? It could be any little thing at 112. Yeah. Like, damn. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01That's I think that's too much. That's too much. But without safety, it's too much. Right. If it has safety, then I'm fine with it.
SPEAKER_02Like, I don't know. I think it's almost like it's like, you know, the fast train that they have, too. It's like the bullet train or whatever. Like, but you're at least encased.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Where on this roller coaster, you're just out in the element, like anything could fly into your face.
SPEAKER_01And if you try to hold your arms up in there, you know, and you lose your fingers.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, break your freaking arms back.
SPEAKER_01Is that a b and then that's it? You're dead. Right.
SPEAKER_02You're dead. Yep. Or rip your arm out of the socket. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01So we're in agreement. Too much.
SPEAKER_02Too much. Okay. Moving on. Barnacle-inspired glue seals bleeding organs in seconds. This is mine. It looks disgusting.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it's it's it's good. Can you imagine? I mean, they'd spend less time in you in the operation table.
SPEAKER_02I guess. But what does this break down over time? Or do you just are just left with the barnacle y thing?
SPEAKER_01You didn't do your research. I sent you the article because I didn't want to fucking read it.
SPEAKER_021.9 million people die every year from blood loss, sometimes from trauma on operating table.
SPEAKER_01Read it. Yeah, read it now. Read it in summary. Just yeah, it's supposed to be it's supposed to be a good glue to hold your organs together now. So and it won't it won't uh and it's glue.
SPEAKER_02It's literally like glue.
SPEAKER_01Right. Now instead of stitches.
SPEAKER_02Stitches or staples or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02Sticking to surfaces resistant to getting stuck, blah, blah, blah.
SPEAKER_01And you can remove, I mean, once it's on, it's on. So that's the thing.
SPEAKER_02It sounds like it's concreted in there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But it's not, I don't think it's concrete. I think it's one step above that because they're using it for surgery now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Just want you to know it's out there, people.
SPEAKER_02Barnacle. So what they take barnacles and crush them up and then they got it from SpongeBob. So that's I just always think of Pirates of the Caribbean. When all those guys have those barnacles and weird things on the bottom. Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. I'm with you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02All right. Then this other thing was just a quick little uh um like the top 18 thing, worst movies ever.
SPEAKER_01Worst movies?
SPEAKER_02Worst movies.
SPEAKER_01Can I can I name a couple? See if they're on there. Ishtar. Is that on there?
SPEAKER_02It's not on there. It should be.
SPEAKER_01Hell yeah, it should be. Yes, it should. Uh uh, I see a comedy. Oh, God.
SPEAKER_02Some of these are just dumb, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_01Uh Hudson Hawk, Bruce Willis, that should be on there.
SPEAKER_02Um, no.
SPEAKER_01No. Okay, go ahead and name them. Okay. So I'm old for old for two.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Some of the ones that we would probably know. Artemis Fowl. That wasn't that bad. They have it ranked 13th worst movie.
SPEAKER_01Go ahead.
SPEAKER_02Well, I also think the English patient should be on there. I think that is like the boringest thing. I don't Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't go for art. I want to be entertained. Well, I'm not interested in learning a lesson.
SPEAKER_02I want is one thing, but that was released as like a major motion picture. And I'm like, okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I hear you.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Yeah. Um, The Lawnmower Man Part Two.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00So most of these are sequel.
SPEAKER_02Some of them are. Yeah. That's the emoji movie. Did you watch the emoji movie? I did watch the movie. It wasn't horrible. That wasn't horrible. Okay, if you're just watching it for fun. The other one, too, that I hate that we went and saw in a movie theater that was absolute crap. Was uh had Will Farrell and he was Sherlock Holmes.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes. The Watson, Holmes and Watson. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That was bad. Yeah. Like we literally were like, do we leave? Like this is shitty. We thought it was gonna be. Right. But I'm a fan. There's a couple people left when we were there. Those guys are hilarious, but it was I don't know if it was just poorly written or just poorly directed, or just yeah. They just quick whipped a dumb piece of shit together and slapped their names on it and called it a move, but it was bad. A lot of reasons. All right. Um, what other ones would we know? The human centipede. Oh my god, have you seen that's disgusting? Oh, that's nasty. That's rated number three uh worst movies.
SPEAKER_01Rated number three. Yeah. Yeah. I'm glad I haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Number two, Fifty Shades of Gray. I agree. It was a big huge hit, I guess.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02For chicks, but that's because I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I'm not uh if you're into that stuff, no, and a lot of chicks apparently want to be into that stuff. I mean she was nude and I respect that.
SPEAKER_02But I mean, you know I mean I get it. You got boobs. Like yeah, there's the whole movie was just showing her tits all the time. Well, I kind of I can do that whenever I want.
SPEAKER_01I'm looking at this on Wikipedia. Some go back into the 30s and stuff. Some of these are really awful.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But the the number one of this list of the eight of the worst movie was Cats. So they updated it. I must kind of agree.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But yeah, I've seen it's so weird. That play was so popular in the 80s. Right.
SPEAKER_02And then they turned it into a movie and it just I don't know.
SPEAKER_01God, there's a lot of stinkers on here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh boy.
SPEAKER_02Kissing booth movies, those are dumb.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Incubus.
SPEAKER_01Tarzan the Ape Man 1981, that was pretty bad because all they were doing was just having Bo Derek in there. Yeah. Remember that? That was that's a bad movie.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and then they have the last one at number 18, they have the new Mulan. The cart the the Not the cartoon, but the but I'm like it was okay, but I still like the cartoon because I like Mushu.
SPEAKER_01So these are broken down by decade.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01So that's probably good. So in the 2000s. Yeah. Epic movie they got uh meet Hottie. Yeah, some of these I haven't seen, which is probably good. Uh no. I haven't seen any of these. Freddy Got Fingered. I heard of that one, but I never watched it.
SPEAKER_02Fingered only. Glitter. Remember that with Mariah Carey? That was stupid as hell.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, I'm looking at uh 2010s here. Yeah. So uh The Last Airbender was pretty bad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was on there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, boy, there's a lot of things.
SPEAKER_02And I thought that'd be kind of a cool movie. Yeah. I thought it was gonna be kind of cool. I love the cartoon. I watched that with Brianna all the time. Yep. And then, yeah, it was not good.
SPEAKER_01Oh boy.
SPEAKER_00But yeah. Yeah. That's a pretty good list.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's a pretty good list. And then uh yeah, the uh Ishtar and then uh Barton Fink, I didn't care for all that much.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Some of those Cohen movies, the the black comedies, yeah, they're kind of hit or miss for me. Uh but uh I really liked Fargo because it was so silly and fun, and you know, they're they're pretty they're pretty brutal in some of that some of those scenes. But uh yeah, the wood shepper scene. I had a snow globe of the wood chipper scene. You d yeah for the longest time with Marge holding her gun and she was pregnant, and then there was snow and blood that you shake up the thing. God, I miss that snow globe.
SPEAKER_02Where'd you put it?
SPEAKER_01Is it I don't know. I think it just it ran out or it broke or something like that.
SPEAKER_02Oh, all the water came out of it.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, maybe. That's entirely powerful. But uh yeah. So that's normally, folks, we're gonna have another segment here.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, the Brewers are playing.
SPEAKER_00Oh, go ahead. See if you could take over sports.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I can't do all the sports. I don't know. Here, let me give you a chin.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna give you his lead in here. Hold on. There you go.
SPEAKER_02Packers look like shit. He'd be happy about that. We've lost the first two preseason again, still preseason. Okay, but yeah, I don't know. Aaron Rodgers isn't playing any preseason games.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02So he better show up the first game.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So I And then what about uh Brewers are still? Brewers are still in good um this is the baseball season. Is it till September?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, it's not till October. Oh, good God. Okay. Oh, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay, okay. Um yeah, we got time. Okay, good, good. But yeah, um, they're playing tonight. Last night was awesome. All right. We were down, and then we tied, and then we freaking came back and won.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02It was it was awesome.
SPEAKER_01In preseason game? We have to do that.
SPEAKER_02It was against the Reds too. It was against the Reds. We ended up winning 7-4. It was great.
SPEAKER_01We have to start doing picks again.
SPEAKER_02After this week, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, after this week, right?
SPEAKER_02After this weekend, it's preseason, and then there's like two weeks off, and then our and then the NFL season starts.
SPEAKER_01All right, all right.
SPEAKER_02Correct, correct. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sounds good.
SPEAKER_02Right now it's 0-0. Rivers are playing the Reds again. But last night was super fun.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It was awesome. Um I don't know. Big Ten. See, I haven't I didn't research any of this.
SPEAKER_01You know, you don't have to. We're just doing this off the tough.
SPEAKER_02That's it. Um, let's take a look at NHL. They're uh, oh, look at that. The wild. What? Oh, not until September. We're starting the end of September for NHL.
SPEAKER_01You know what I've been getting into lately is uh this field hockey.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_01There's a there's a lot of violence and shit that goes on.
SPEAKER_02Oh, field hockey, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm surprised it's it's you know, young women just beating a snot out of each other.
SPEAKER_02It's great. They whack shit around. Yep.
SPEAKER_01So I found out uh so the 10 most popular, I was looking this up uh yesterday, the most popular participation sports. Yeah. Soccer is number one. Oh, yeah. Then badminton is second. Badminton? Badminton. A world, worldwide. So I'm like, That's weird. No, and then field hockey is third, because field hockey, is that worldwide?
SPEAKER_02Field hockey is, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It is, I think.
SPEAKER_02I would say so, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then volleyball and then basketball. I don't know how tennis is a team sport, but it's on there.
SPEAKER_02But uh I can play doubles maybe, but it's not really a team.
SPEAKER_01Participation sports, yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02And the Big Ten starts here in um like Labor Day weekend-ish, because like Iowa, Iowa plays.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02It's like September 4th.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02I can do badgers.
SPEAKER_01So we're rooting for badgers in your Iowa, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02The Badgers play Penn State September 4th. So that's the kind of the beginning of the uh Big Ten. I don't care about the other teams in the Big Ten. Well, and then there's the big thing where the SEC and the Big Ten, and there's another one that all want to join into one big group. Okay. And just have one like humongous Big Ten, but I don't know how that's gonna work.
SPEAKER_01Cause then we'd be like So then how are the Brewers doing then?
SPEAKER_02Uh well we're still top of the central. So we got 77 wins and then uh Cincinnati. That's why we're the Reds, we're playing the Reds right now. So we need to beat them because right they're the second in the central division with 69 wins.
SPEAKER_00Jeez. Is Yellish who's the guy?
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, Yellish is hot right now.
SPEAKER_00He's hot, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. He's doing awesome.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, our pitching, like we had one bad inning last night, and then I was like, oh shit. But then like we caught up, and then there was a couple awesome hits, and then yeah. So it was awesome. It was a good game to watch, actually.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it's still lasting. It is a long, it's still a long time to watch a baseball game. You gotta have some time.
SPEAKER_02It is. It's you know, a couple out two and a half hours or something.
SPEAKER_01I still want to be able to take a kid or you know, something to the I mean fathers want to take their kid to the right ball soon.
SPEAKER_02Yep. That's always fun. That's pretty good.
SPEAKER_01So I think what we're gonna do, we're gonna end it right there. Uh Rick is out today, so we're just gonna kind of call it Yeah, you know, an even Wednesday. You know, short or what? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's fine. It's all good. It's too fucking hot anyway.
SPEAKER_01It's really hot. We got the rundowns. We came in here half energy. Right? Thank God we don't have anyone to answer to. You know, or they would say something about that.
SPEAKER_02Exactly.
SPEAKER_01But I I don't we don't have it. We don't have that. Bye.
SPEAKER_02No, just kidding, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Have a good one.
SPEAKER_02Have a good one, stay cool.
